Ways to live your best life!

Following on from last weeks blog post “How to feel confident all the time” I wanted to take a look at someone who is the definition of oporahconfident, Oprah Winfrey. The success Oprah enjoys today has come from many years of hard work, dedication and overcoming adversity. According to wikipedia “Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee neighborhood. She experienced considerable hardship during her childhood, saying she was raped at age nine and became pregnant at 14; her son died in infancy”. After overcoming these very painful personally challenges Oprah is now “ranked the richest African-American of the 20th century, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and was for a time the world’s only black billionaire. She is also, according to some assessments, the most influential woman in the world.”

Who better to inspire us to live our best life, here are Oprah’s top tips:

  • What you put out comes back all the time, no matter what.
  • You define your own life. Don’t let other people write your script.
  • Whatever someone did to you in the past, has no power over the present. Only you give it power.
  • What you believe has more power that what you dream or wish or hope for. You become what you believe.
  • Worrying is wasted time. Use the same energy for doing something about whatever worries you.
  • If the only prayer you say is thank you that will be enough.
  • The happiness you feel is in direct proportion to the love you give.
  • Trust your instincts. Intuition does not lie.
  • Let passion drive your profession.
  • Love doesn’t hurt. It feels really good.
  • Every day brings a chance to start over.
  • When you don’t know what to do. Get still. The answer will come.
  • Failure is a signpost to turn you in another direction.

If you are worried about a situation, ask yourself:

What’s the worst thing that can happen?

Is it really so bad?  It usually isn’t.

Seek out people who make you feel good, relaxed and resourceful.

Read a book that is inspiring.

Refuse to read bad news during a negative period.

Write a list of all the things which are good in your life, then compare it with the ‘problem’. See how insignificant the problem seems.

Watch a film that helps you get in a positive state.

If you have kids, play games with them.

If you don’t have kids, pretend your one!

Go somewhere, which inspires you.

Ask someone for a hug.

Read a funny story before you go to bed.

Are you a ‘stressed out’ perfectionist?

Regular readers of the blog know I am a great believer in writing down and setting goals. I encourage you to dream big but setting yourself high goals and targets can often feel like you’re setting yourself up to fail.

You want to achieve your goals and be a better person than you were last year, but that often means getting fixated on being a perfectionist as well.  And therein lies the problem…

“Because it’s OK to struggle to reach your goals – it’s just that we often get really down and feel guilt or failure if we don’t reach them”.

Are you a ‘stressed out’ perfectionist?

Common traits of the perfectionist:perfection

  1. Shows excessive concern over small, everyday tasks
  2. Worries about others’ approval
  3. Frequently asks for extensions of deadlines
  4. Worries excessively about being a disappointment to others
  5. Over time, the trait can be identified by excessive levels of worry, depression, and sense of failure (even if the person is talented and competent).

A healthy level of perfectionism can be a good thing if it inspires us to achieve things we wouldn’t normally achieve, it can motivate us in the face of adversity. But it can also be a source for anxiety, stress and depression.

Sarah Edelman, psychologist and author of the book Change Your Thinking.

Sometimes it can actually be counter-productive, leading to procrastination and inaction, because people remain stuck on one particular task, trying to get it perfect and never moving on to the next task,” she says.

The road to success is full of twists and turns, it’s not a direct route! We learn from our mistakes, we have to be flexible to change and be open to opportunity. If a deadline for a goal is passed and not achieved review, refocus don’t beat yourself up. The only way to ‘fail’ is to give up! Recognise that the human condition is one of failings, weakness, deviations, imperfections, and mistakes; Be kind to yourself when you mess things up, it’s what makes us human! Remember to celebrate success, no matter how small!

No one said it would be easy, life is challenge thank God! It allows us to stretch and grow, it moulds us into a better person. If it was easy we would get bored.

Only dead fish swim with the stream – ‘live’ fish swim against the currents! Each flick of the fin makes us stronger!

The power of incantations: what do you say to yourself on a daily basis?

“An incantation or enchantment is a charm or spell created using words. An incantation may take place during a ritual, either a hymn or prayer, and may invoke or praise a deity”. Wikipedia

The power of incantations and positive self talk

Another definition  of Incantation that I love is “Ritual recitation of verbal charms or spells to produce a magic effect.” I truly believe, in fact I know the power of incantation and the magic that can be achieved. After reading this article I challenge you to try it for a month, please come back and tell me the results!

What are incantations?
An incantation is a phrase or language pattern that is said out-loud, using energy and engaging your body. Incantations are one of the most powerful tools available for conditioning new beliefs, identity and language patterns.

Who is the number one person you communicate with on a daily basis? Its yourself of course! If your thoughts revolve around negative thinking patterns, insecurities and fears, it will be virtually impossible to feel good about yourself and achieve YOUR TRUE potential. Take the first step and really listen to yourself, what are you saying on a daily basis?

Incantations are a great way to condition your mind. Repetition causes the incantation to become a thought inside that becomes a habit. It needs to be said over and over again, as many days as possible to become engraved in your neurology. It is proven that if something is consistently done for 21 days, it becomes a habit!

Some examples of positive incantations:

Money flows easily and effortlessly into my life.

I belief in myself.

I am a good, kind and caring person.

I can find a way to live my dreams.

I make wise and fantastic choices daily that are aligned with my purpose.

Are you finding and pursuing your passion?

“There will never be a better you than you”- Warren Buffett

My definition of passion is to live your life fully and completely. It is to wake up each morning and feel alive!life with passion, love your life!

The world will always present you with challenges. You can choose to live fully, giving your unique gifts to the world, or you can choose to live out of balance.

We all have fears, we need to make fear our friend so we can push through it and find the beauty on the other side. Fear of fear may lead you to live a lesser life than you can be capable of…. By leaning just beyond your fear, you challenge your limits – you step beyond the solid ground of security with an open heart.

Own Your Personal Power : You’re Uniqueness- ‘X-Factor’! Step into your greatness/ your charisma!

Life is an ‘open door’ to all possible: Find what juices you from somewhere. Awaken your talents and light your fire!

“Live to the point of tears – intensity and with rare passion”- Albert Camus

Make your life an ongoing process of being who you are, at your deepest level. The core of your life is to find your purpose. Sometimes we start out not knowing what this is. We may start a job/business wondering if this is truly what we are meant to do. The question is that I believe you will find out as time goes on if it is, no one said you can not adjust the sails!

Don’t be afraid to make changes and take massive action. The hardest thing is to make the decision, just decide, do not second guess yourself!

“Many people are not following their passion because they are creatively blocked, paralyzed by fear or don’t have the money.”

What journey do you wish for your life?

Do you reach beyond to touch the sky, or lag behind, afraid to try?

Do you reach beyond to learn anew, or hesitate–the same old you?

Do you reach beyond to test your limit,or do you tell yourself, I am timid?

Do you reach beyond to lead the pack,or do you waste time looking back?

Do you reach beyond and strive to find, better ways to stretch your mind?

Do you reach beyond to care and share, and help some others do and dare?

Do you reach beyond, expect the best, or have you given up the quest?

Do you reach beyond and claim your space, here and now, this time, this place?

Do you reach beyond and try to soar, or, sadly, play it safe once more?
